Skagway, Alaska.
It is fun to go by train to the White Pass Summit. The White Pass Summit has an elevation of 2888 feet high! When the train goes down is it bumpy. Along the way, the train passed through two tunnels and over several trestle bridges. The scenery was spectacular!

Historic Anchorage Hotel
The Historic Anchorage Hotel was a central meeting and gathering place. It opened in 1916. The hotel was restored and renovated in 1989. It was placed on the historic national register.

Why are brown bears important?
Brown bears are a part of our culture that dates back 3000 years. They are a symbol of true wilderness. Many native Americans believe brown bears possess special powers.
Brown bears are similar to humans because they stand on two feet and eat plants and animals. Brown bear mothers also protect their cubs for 2 years after being born.
Brown bears almost became extinct, but have made a comeback, as their population recovery is one of the biggest successes ever.

Was a migration by an estimated 100.000 prospectors to the Klondike region of the Yukon in north-western. The Alaska gold rush was in 1896 to 1899. The gold was discovered in August 16 1896. People from Seattle and San Francisco came. In 1899 the gold miners left and went to Nome.

The White Pass Summit
The train ride is from Skagway Alaska to Whitehorse Yukon. Equipment, freight and people go on a ferry ship to the Port of Skagway where they get the train. The railroad opened in 1900. It started taking tourists in 1988. The track is 20 miles long and ends at the summit of White Pass a mountain with a 2865 foot elevation.

Humpback Whales
The whale's length 12-16 metres and the weight of the whale is 36000 kilograms. The humpback whale is an acrobatic animal known for breaching and slapping the water with it's tail. Breaching is when the whale goes up in the water.

Whales in Alaska
Whales migrate from Mexico to Alaska from February to April. Many different whales can be seen in Alaska during May to September.
